Connie Lowry Gives Advice for Open Houses

By csheaffer@helenadamsrealty.com - March 31, 2017
When one considers buying or selling their home, a common thought is always open houses. Whether you are buying or selling, open houses are almost inevitable. It is a way for buyers to explore their housing options and figure out their likes and dislikes and it is a way for sellers to market their home in efforts to find that perfect buyer. At Helen Adams Realty, our agents are committed to keeping up with industry trends and staying knowledgeable about the entire real estate process including open houses. One of our agents who specializes in open house tips and tricks, Connie Lowry, offered some words of advice and encouragement for those who are embarking on the home buying or selling process.

Lowry suggests that sellers, when preparing for open houses, declutter and hide as many personal photos as possible. She also said to put medicines in a plastic bag or container and take them with you when you leave the house. Put jewelry in a safe place and out of sight and it also might be helpful to take a picture of where you hide these valuables so you will be able to easily access them after the open house.

If you are a home buyer, Lowry recommends being pre-qualified before you attend open houses so that you have an idea of what you can afford. Being pre-qualified also means that if you believe that you’ve found the perfect house, you could possibly sign a contract right there! Buyers should drive around the neighborhood before the open house, to see if the community is a right fit for them.

Safety, Lowry said, is also a realistic concern that agents and clients must be aware of when touring homes. Lowry tells agents to have their phones on them at all times in case they need to make an emergency call. Be aware of your surroundings and always know the way out of an uncomfortable situation.

Connie Lowry is a real estate agent at Helen Adams Realty’s Ballantyne office. Before joining the real estate industry, Lowry had the privilege of being an officer in the U.S. Army, a teacher and even acted in a few movies! Lowry teaches a class for agents who are planning open houses and encourages agents to take these classes to benefit their clients. If you are thinking about buying or selling a home, give our experienced real estate professionals a call.
